What arts do we train here?
We study traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate-do, a combat effective fighting art passed down from its founder Miyagi Chojun Sensei, through our lineage to Higaonna Morio Sensei, founder of the IOGKF.
We also study the art of Okinawan Kobudo as taught by Shinpo Matayoshi Sensei.
What can I expect from a class?
Classes at the Bushinkan Dojo are challenging! Classes begin with traditional preparatory exercises, You can expect a variety of drills, stretching, strength and coordination building exercises, instruction on proper striking techniques, self defense, Kata and Kumite. Classes are exhilarating if your attitude is right.
What age range is appropriate?
Our youth class starts around 7 years old. We teach coordination, balance, discipline and structure in a fun, safe environment. Its never too late to start! Okinawan Goju Ryu has its focus on proper technique, not strength and athleticism. Learn time honored effective self defense while getting stronger, more flexible and building up your endurance.
How long does it take to get a blackbelt?
The answer isn't an easy one to come by. It depends on your dedication, commitment to training and consistency in training. Effort is key. Proper attention is paid to your progress and lessons are tailored to ensure you meet your goals.
